The Louder Song, by Aubrey Sampson, is a book that leads us to a place of hope. It presents a pathway through suffering with lament. According to the author, lament “minds the gap between current hopelessness and coming hope.”
The book begins with a forward from Shannon Etheridge. It goes on to offer “An Invitation to Lament and Hope.” Other chapters include: It’s Okay to Be Honest, When Pain is Chronic, When You Just Need to Do Something, and What Kind of God do We Have? After this Sampson includes an appendix offering advice. Another appendix offers Bible verses to read during pain, after which is a study guide to use with one’s own lament journey.
I found this book very informative. The personal stories from the author’s own life enhance the facts presented. The idea of lament leading to hope and a pathway to the future is something everyone needs at some point in his or her life.
I would recommend this book to anyone going through a difficult time in life or trying to assist someone else going through such a time.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
