Book Review, “Deep Extraction,” DiAnn Mills author

deep extraction cover

Deep Extraction, by Diann Mills, is the second book in the FBI Task Force series.  In her “Note From the Author,” Mills describes it as a novel showing “how people can grow and become better people for their circumstances or sink into the depths of degradation.” Set in Houston, Texas, it centers around the murder of Nathan Moore.

FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton is shocked at the murder of her friend Nathan. Best friends with his wife Sally, Tori is determined to find out who hacked Nathan’s pacemaker and killed him. When Deputy US Marshall Cole Jeffers, also a close friend of the family, reinstates and joins the task force, the two are paired to solve the murder. As they investigate, they find that Nathan was not the man they thought, keeping many secrets that weave a tangled web of evidence to sort out. With Sally a suspect, they are motivated to find the truth and clear her name.

This was an excellent book.  I found it hard to put down.  The characters are very realistic, with flaws that any person could possess. I especially enjoyed Tori’s devotion to her friends and appreciated her honest struggle with faith in God.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Christian suspense novels.

Book Review, “Deadly Encounter,” Diann Mills author

Deadly Encounter cover

Deadly Encounter, by Diann Mills, is another excellent novel from this author. It tells the story of a woman, going through her normal routine, who encounters a situation that throws her life into total chaos. Set in Houston, Texas, this book illustrates the fragility of our daily lives and brings to light the types of people that work daily to prevent such occurrences.

Stacy Broussard takes what she expects to be a peaceful ride on her horse one Saturday morning. Instead, she finds a dead body, a dog, and a powerful drone. Stacy, a veterinarian, takes the dog back to her clinic and begins working with the FBI’s Alex LeBlanc to solve the case. In the days that follow, Stacy soon realizes that not only is her life in danger, but also that of Whitt, the boy she is hoping to adopt, and her entire community. The dog she found carries a deadly disease with no cure, and Stacy and her community members are at risk of sickness and death.

I loved this book.  It was difficult to put it down.  My heart especially went out to Whitt, who was attempting to make the most of his life in spite of his difficult circumstances. I also liked the fact that many of the characters in the story had difficult things happened in their pasts but found a way to move on and succeed in their lives.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian suspense novels.

Book Review, “Double Cross,” DiAnn Mills author

Double Cross coverDouble Cross, by DiAnn Mills, an FBI: Houston novel, is the second in this series. Another thrilling suspense novel, this book is fast-paced and action-packed.

FBI agent Laurel Evertson has been content with desk work since her partner died the last time she was in the field. But her investigation into a scam targeting the elderly leads her not only back out undercover, but also working with the man she arrested that day and wants only to forget, Morton Wilmington. He claims to have become a Christian and to have changed his life, but Laurel remains unconvinced. Daniel Hilton, an officer with the Houston Police Department, fears for his grandparents’ lives after they are drawn into the scam. He agrees to work undercover with the FBI in order to protect them, placing him with Laurel on the case. Together they work diligently, and reluctantly, with Wilmington to solve the case before more innocent victims are killed.

This was an incredible book. I didn’t want to put it down until the very end. The characters were very believable, and their stories mirrored many real lives of today. The issues with trusting a man claiming to be saved are certainly relevant to many people. I loved Daniel’s grandparents and their spunk, as well as Daniel’s steady faith.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading suspense novels.

Book Review, “Firewall,” Diann Mills author

Firewall cover

Firewall, by Diann Mills, is a thrilling suspense novel. It grasps the reader’s attention from the first page until the very last! It tells the tale of a young woman’s life turned upside down in a matter of seconds.

Taryn Young, one of the country’s top software developers, thinks she is on the way to her honeymoon when a bomb destroys the airport. Awakening in the hospital, she finds that she and her missing husband are both prime suspects. But Agent Grayson Hall has a gut instinct that Taryn is innocent. As the investigation continues, revealing that her marriage was falsified, coworkers were involved in the plot, and close friends begin turning up dead, Taryn and Grayson work together to find her best friend’s missing child and solve the case. It seems, however, that many people want her out of the picture, and Grayson has a tough job keeping her safe.

I loved this book. Its many twists and turns kept my attention to the end. While I suspected the culprit about halfway through, there was no way to be sure until the last few pages. I especially liked the idea that the main character believed in abstinence until marriage. If you enjoy reading Christian suspense novels, you will want to read this book!

Book Review, “The Survivor,” DiAnn Mills author

the survivor coverThe Survivor, by DiAnn Mills, is a riveting story that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. It is book two in the Crime Scene: Houston Series, following The Chase.

Kariss Walker, an award-winning author, decides to take on a new novel based on the true story of Dr. Amy Garrett, who was brutally attacked and left to die as a child. Amy’s story, however, draws the attention of the assailant, who was never caught, putting both women in grave danger. Special Agent Santiago Harris, with whom Kariss has recently ended a relationship, becomes the one she turns to for assistance and advice as the situation becomes more and more serious. When Tigo’s current case involving a car bombing and Kariss’s become obviously related, he fears for her life and wants desperately to protect her, something hard to accomplish as she continues to put her life in danger.

This is a wonderfully written novel, one that was hard to put down. The characters and situation felt very real. I was saddened to find out that Amy’s story was based on a real-life occurrence. I was impressed with this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading suspense novels.
