Lethal Target, by Janice Cantore, is the second book in the Line of Duty series. It follows Crisis Shot. Set in the present day, it continues the story of Tess O’Rourke, police officer who began the first book in Long Beach, California.
Tess, now police chief of Rogue’s Hollow, Oregon, begins investigating the suspicious death of an eighteen-year-old. While the death was staged as an overdose, the boy was not a known drug user, and Tess attempts to find the truth. Meanwhile, there are suspicious things happening at the new pot farm nearby, as well as with many of the people who work there. When her nemesis from Long Beach, Hector Connor-Ruiz shows up in town to stir up trouble for Tess, things begin to escalate. Other victims are found dead, and three people are missing. One of the dead bodies is found on Tess’s porch, and she is asked to take vacation time during the investigation. But Tess is determined to continue looking into leads as they present themselves, regardless of the danger involved.
This was a marvelous book. I enjoyed the fast-pace and constant action in this story. I especially liked Oliver’s interaction with Cherry and the inclusion of Tilly’s continued recovery.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian suspense novels.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
