Book Review, “A Haven on Orchard Lane,” Lawana Blackwell author

A Haven on Orchard Lane cover

A Haven on Orchard Lane, by Lawana Blackwell, is a charming story.  It is set in England during the late 1800s. It tells the tale of a mother and daughter reuniting after years of separation.

Charlotte Ward, a famous actress, has been away from the London stage for five years. When she receives an opportunity to renew her career, also an opportunity to escape her overbearing husband, she jumps at the chance. Her attempt comes to naught, however, when she collapses on the stage during her first performance. Charlotte’s daughter, whom she has not seen in years, reluctantly comes to her aid and takes her to a small coastal town to recuperate.  While they are in Port Stilwell, the two must face the results of their broken relationship and decide what the future holds for them.

This was a wonderful book.  My heart broke for Charlotte from the very beginning, having to make difficult choices that she later regretted. Rosalind reminded me of many young people I know, not realizing the blessings she has received until life experience brings the situation to light.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Christian historical fiction.

I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
