Book Review, “Beauty Begins,” Chris Shook and Megan Shook Alpha authors

beaty begins coverIn Beauty Begins: Making Peace with Your Reflection, Chris Shook and Megan Shook Alpha discuss a topic familiar to all women, self-image.  They ask the difficult questions: Do you feel beautiful? Also, when you look in the mirror, what do you see?

Chris and Megan begin with The Beautiful Truth, which reminds us that beauty begins with God, who created us. They continue with discussions regarding brokenness in our lives, our daily struggles, and the importance of surrounding ourselves with the right friends. Then they move on to address rebellion against societal views in the areas of fashion and culture. The book then ends with a chapter entitled, A Challenge to Men, written by Kerry Shook and Jordan Alpha, focusing on a message to men who are or will be involved in the life of women as husbands, fathers, sons, etc.

This was a marvelous book.  It reminds women that beauty is more than outward appearance. It is the beauty on the inside that matters most.  When women make peace with their inside appearance, the outside is not nearly as important.  I especially liked the chapter written by the men, who certainly have a major effect on women’s self-image.

I would recommend this book to any woman who questions her beauty.

  1. I fully agree with your idea of beauty!! I wish more women felt the same! Maybe then we wouldn’t be consumed by unattainable standards for beauty…
