An Unbroken Heart, by Kathleen Fuller, is a wonderful novel. It is the second in the Amish of Birch Creek series, following A Reluctant Bride. It shows that lives can change in an instant, causing drastic changes to many people.
Joanna Schrock has been in love with Andrew Beiler since he protected her from bullies at school when they were twelve-years-old. Over the next eight years, her feelings grow stronger, and the two begin to date. But when her parents are killed as a car hits their buggy, right in the middle of an argument between Joanna and her parents regarding her readiness for marriage, Joanna is seriously injured. During her recovery, Andrew asks her to marry him, and she accepts. But Joanna’s guilt about her parents’ deaths bring a load of anxiety about her upcoming nuptials. She must decide whether to follow her heart or God’s plan.
This was a marvelous book. I enjoyed it very much. I especially liked the loyalty from her sisters and the way Abigail put her own life on hold to support Joanna. I truly felt sad for Joanna and Andrew as they dealt with the multitude of emotions that come with any relationship, only to be compounded by the accident.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish fiction.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
