Book Review, “Strong and Kind,” Korie Robertson and Chrys Howard authorsauthor

Strong and Kind coverStrong and Kind and Other Important Character Traits Your Child Needs to Succeed, by Korie Robertson with Chrys Howard is a wonderful book. It also includes “Stories and Wisdom” from Willie Robertson.

Korie has written this book because she believes that “What America needs today are parents who don’t just say they value these virtues but who live them and passionately and boldly teach them to their children.” She begins the book by explaining that she was asked a question as a young mother, “What are two important character traits that you want to see in your children?” She answered strong and kind. This book helps parents to understand why it is important to teach children Biblical character traits. In addition to strong and kind, she includes self-control, honesty, compassion, patience, joyfulness, loyalty, and humility.

This is a wonderful book with practical advice from parents who have a wealth of experience. Their willingness to share these experiences in order to assist other parents in instilling Biblical values in their children is commendable. I especially liked the section on honesty, which included this quote: “We must train our children to be honest and teach them that dishonesty brings painful consequences. Being honest might make us uncomfortable for a few minutes, but it leads to much greater rewards.”

I would recommend this book to anyone who is attempting to influence children toward Biblical character traits.
