21 Seconds to Change Your World: Finding God’s Healing and Abundance Through Prayer, by Dr. Mark Rutland, explores both the Lord’s Prayer and the twenty-third psalm. Inspired by his own experience with praying these scripture passages daily, he encourages readers to do the same.
The book begins with a forward written by Mark Batterson. Dr. Rutland then describes how praying the Lord’s Prayer, which took him approximately 21 seconds, each day helped him work through depression. He eventually added the twenty-third psalm to enrich his prayer life. After describing a history of both Jesus and King David, the authors of these passages, Rutland analyzes each section of both scriptures, comparing and discussing accordingly. Both scriptures are written out in the book. The Lord’s Prayer is also printed in sixteen other languages at the end.
This is a wonderful book for anyone looking to enrich or expand his or her prayer life in a manner that he may not have previously considered. I especially appreciated the way Dr. Rutland acknowledged that some people believe it is a prayer to be memorized and recited, while others believe that it is merely a template to be used as a guide. This is definitely a recommended read.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
