The Mountain Midwife, by Laurie Alice Eakes, is a marvelous novel. Set in a modern day rural Appalachian community, it intertwines the stories of two people who would otherwise never have met.
Ashley Tolliver is a midwife in her rural community. Women in her family have been midwives there for generations, but she dreams of more, becoming a doctor. Hunter McDermott’s quest to find the birth mother he never knew of leads him to Ashley’s door. Having just discovered that he was adopted, and beginning his search with the midwife in the community where the phone call that enlightened him originated, he asks for Ashley’s assistance. As they spend time together in the search, Hunter begins to admire Ashley’s way of truly helping the women of her town. Ashley begins to respect Hunter’s desire to not only find the truth, but truly love his new found family.
I loved this book. It was difficult to put down! The characters were very realistic, in their success and their failures. I especially liked the way that Ashley’s parents were drawn in to the story to give her some much needed advice.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
