Book Review, “Rise of the Fallen,” Chuck Black author

rise of the fallen coverRise of the Fallen, by Chuck Black, is the second book in the Wars of the Realm series. This novel includes humans, angels, and demons in a story of suspense and intrigue. It follows Cloak of the Light, first book in the series, in which Drew Carter is introduced. Drew has an accident in a physics lab in college, finds himself blind from it, then regains his sight only to find that he can see supernatural beings.

In this novel, the story is told from the angel’s point of view. Validus, an angel, is reassigned from commanding angels in the entire North American area to protecting one man, Drew Carter. At first, it appears to be a demotion for Validus. But as he observes Drew and investigates further, he begins to realize that God has an important purpose for his new assignment. Throughout the story, the reader learns of Validus’ history throughout the ages as the angel remembers different his role in different Bible stories.

Overall, I liked this story, and I will probably read the next in the series to find out what happens to the characters. Even so, I had some concerns. The author puts in bold things directly from the Bible and admits to expounding upon the rest, but I had a hard time with the idea of angels using guns in battle. I also objected to the idea that demons snuck into Heaven for information to use against God’s plan.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in stories with angels and demons.

I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review
