Book Review, “The One Year Book of Amish Peace,” Trisha Goyer author

The one year book of Amish peace coverThe One Year Book of Amish Peace: Hearing God’s Voice in the Simple Things, by Tricia Goyer is an inspiring devotional.  It emphasizes the simplicity of the Amish lifestyle as an opportunity to draw closer to God.  This devotional acknowledges that we are not all designed to live as the Amish, but we can all learn from their ways and apply these lessons to our lives.

Each day’s devotion begins with a Bible verse.  This is followed by a short devotion regarding the Amish and applied to our lives.  These include such topics as prayer, trust, obedience, praise, and cultural influences. Then one finds a prayer starter, encouraging the reader to draw close to God in prayer.  Along the side, Goyer has listed an Amish fact or proverb for each day.

I enjoyed these devotions.  They are presented in a way that makes them easy to complete, even on busy days.  Their simple lessons are easily applied to our lives, and they would encourage one to focus upon his/her relationship with Christ.  I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the Amish or would like to find the time to focus upon God each day.

  1. I love the Amish. I would like to live a semi-Amish life, but I would never give up playing the banjo… Maybe I’ll end up a Mennonite at some point!
