Prairie Song, by Mona Hodgson, is the first book in the Hearts Seeking Home series. This series continues the stories of characters previously introduced in Hodgson’s Quilted Heart series. This series follows the characters on their journey west with Boone’s Lick Company Wagon Train.
Anna Goben, having called off her wedding at the last minute, embarks upon this adventure toward a new life. She hopes that it will help her mother to give up alcohol and inspire them all to go on after her brother’s death in the Civil War. Caleb Reger, keeping secrets of his past alcoholism, begins the trip with a low opinion of Anna. As the company progresses, however, he finds himself more and more attracted to her. In the midst of their budding romance, Anna struggles with her mother, personal items of other travelers go missing, and the trail leader, Garrett, and Caroline Milburn begin to find love in spite of their rocky beginnings.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Having read the first book in the Quilted Hearts series but not the other two, I was unsure about jumping into this one. It was, however, easy to follow and stole my heart almost immediately. I found myself relating to the characters, who seemed so realistic. This was a wonderful book, and I would definitely recommend it.
I received this book free from the publisher and was not required to write a positive review.
