Not By Might, by Al Lacy, is book eight in the Angel of Mercy series. I have not read the other books in the series but was not hindered by this, as the story stood alone well. The story was centered around the Zechariah 4:6, repeated many times throughout the book.
This is a fantastic Christian western story, set in the old west and complete with all of the typical old west characters, such as marshals, sheriffs, and deputies with their guns and horses. It also includes, however, a hospital with doctors and nurses, something not typically found in western stories. I found the characters charming, if not totally realistic. They were lovable and sincere, always looking out for each other and trying to overcome evil.
This book contains an abundance of scripture. We should all aspire to be as fluent in the Word of God as the characters in this book. Even so, at times they launched into a Bible story at awkward moments, such as after just meeting another character, something we probably would not do in real life.
All in all, I found this to be a charming story, one that all western-lovers will truly enjoy.
