Book Review – “The Lightkeeper’s Ball,” Colleen Coble, Author

The Lightkeeper’s Ball, A Mercy Falls Novel, by Colleen Coble, is an incredible story!  Although it is book three in the series, it is a complete story unto itself.  When Olivia is informed of her sister’s death, she immediately suspects foul play.  She doesn’t believe that her sister, who was deathly afraid of water, could possibly have drowned while swimming or committed suicide in such a manner.  As a result of her suspicions, she heads off to investigate for herself.  The story of her search includes mystery, suspense,  and romance all wrapped up together in a story that is difficult to put down.

The many lessons in this book keep you considering your own actions and behavior.  For example, do we know our relatives well enough to recognize when information about them is not true?  Also, I appreciated the lesson on telling the whole truth, rather than lying by omission. Olivia tells a lie of omission early in the story that causes her stress through the entire book and nearly costs her the man she loves, surely a lesson for all of us.

If you enjoy historical fiction, this is a must read! Colleen Coble does a superb job of keeping the reader’s attention through the entire book.  Great job, Colleen!
